Email marketing & automation

The list you already have, finally earning.

Most small businesses are sitting on a few hundred email addresses they have never really used. Email marketing only earns when the sequences are built and running, so we write them and wire up the automation, and you send nothing by hand.

How it works

Email marketing in four sequences.

Most businesses need these four and nothing else. Built once, they run for years with light maintenance.

01

Welcome

What arrives after someone signs up or buys. Sets expectations and makes the second purchase likely.

02

Follow-up

Fires after a quote or inquiry, stops the moment they reply. This is the one that recovers real money.

03

Win-back

Reaches people who bought once and drifted. The cheapest customer you will ever get is one you already had.

04

Campaigns

Seasonal offers timed to when your market actually buys, sent to the segment they apply to.

Why it matters

You already own the audience.

Email is the only channel where you own the list outright. No algorithm decides who sees it, and nobody can raise the price of reaching your own customers.

The usual state of things

A list is not the same as a system.

Almost everyone who calls us already has a list. What they do not have is anything happening to it automatically.

What we usually find
  • A few hundred contacts sitting in a platform nobody has logged into for a year
  • A welcome email that was set up once and now points at an offer that ended
  • Quote follow-ups sent by hand, which means sent when there is time, which means rarely
  • One list with everyone on it, so every email is slightly wrong for most people
  • Sequences that keep sending after someone has already replied and booked
  • Open rates reported as the headline number, which stopped meaning much in 2021
What you get instead
  • Every contact tagged by where they came from and what they wanted
  • A welcome series that still makes sense a year from now
  • Follow-up that fires automatically and stops the second someone answers
  • Segments, so a past customer and a cold inquiry get different messages
  • Copy written in your voice, not the template the platform suggested
  • Reporting on revenue and replies, the numbers that actually decide things
The AI question

AI writes emails. It doesn't send them.

Email is the place where AI looks most convincing and helps least, because the writing was never the hard part. Deciding who gets what, and when, is.

What AI genuinely does well

  • Drafts a decent first version far faster than you would
  • Rewrites something long into something readable
  • Generates subject line options worth testing
  • Summarizes what a customer asked across a long thread
  • Translates your notes into a usable outline

What it cannot do on its own

  • Decide who should receive it and who should not
  • Fire at the right moment, then stop when someone replies
  • Keep your tags and segments clean as contacts move around
  • Notice that a sequence has been sending to the wrong list for a month
  • Tell you whether any of it produced revenue

Everyone can write an email now. Almost nobody has a system that sends the right one.

Why the plumbing matters more than the prose

One practical example. Most platforms cannot reliably detect that a customer replied to you directly, so a sequence will happily keep chasing someone who already said yes. That is a systems problem, and it is solved with tagging and exit conditions, not with a better prompt.

Do the math

What your list is worth right now.

Your numbers. This works out what a modest, realistic sequence would add over a year, using your own list size and prices.

Past customers and inquiries both count.
Be honest. For most people the answer is 0 to 4.
This decides which sequence we would build you first.
1 to 3% is normal for a warm list.
Untapped over 12 months
$20,400
Going from 2 to 12 sends a year, at a 30% read rate.

A funnel build is $2,800, and the sequences keep running after.
extra sends × list × 30% read × buy rate × order value
Want this breakdown in writing?
We will send your figures and the first sequence we would build for you, whether or not you book a call.
No newsletter, no sequence you didn't ask for. One email with your numbers.

Assumptions, stated plainly: twelve sends a year, a 30% read rate, and your own buy rate. It assumes your list is people who genuinely opted in, because emailing anyone else does more harm than good. Treat it as a direction, not a forecast.

Who it's for

Built for owner-operators.

If you have customers who bought once and never heard from you again, this is the fastest money on the list.

We work with small independent businesses across North County San Diego, the Temecula Valley, and Colorado's Front Range.

  • Anyone with a list they never email
  • Businesses quoting work that goes quiet
  • Shops and studios with repeat-purchase customers
  • Service businesses with a clear seasonal cycle
  • Anyone chasing follow-ups by hand
  • Businesses on a platform they are paying for and not using
Proof

A funnel that knows when to stop.

For Alchemy Print Co. we built a ten-email funnel across three journeys: warm customers, cold outreach, and inbound quote follow-up. The interesting part was not the writing.

The constraint
  • The platform could not detect when a customer replied directly to an email.
  • Built-in exit conditions required a connected online store, which a print shop does not have.
  • Left alone, that means a customer who has already said yes keeps getting chased for a week.
  • That is worse than no follow-up at all, because it makes an attentive business look careless.
How we solved it
  • If/else gates before every email, checking for a "replied" tag rather than trusting the platform.
  • Form submissions tagged automatically through Zapier, in an account the client already owned.
  • Three separate journeys so warm, cold, and inbound contacts never receive the wrong message.
  • A written handover making clear which single manual step keeps the whole thing honest.

We flagged the manual step in writing rather than hiding it. Every automation has one weak joint, and the client knowing exactly where it is beats a system that looks seamless right up until it embarrasses them.

Pricing

Two ways to work with us.

Unpackaged at an hourly rate for a single sequence, or a fixed-scope build. Every package states the revision rounds and who writes the copy.

Hourly

$85
per hour, no minimum

One sequence, a single campaign, a list cleanup, or fixing an automation that is misfiring.

Funnel Build

$2,800
fixed scope, 2 to 3 weeks

Up to three landing pages, all copy written for you, one sequence of up to six emails, CRM connected, tracking set up, two rounds of revisions.

If you want campaigns written every month as well, the 15-hour retainer at $1,200 usually fits better. Full pricing is on the pricing page.

Questions

The things people actually ask.

Does email marketing still work?
Yes, and it is still the highest-returning channel most small businesses have access to. The catch is that it only works when the sequences are actually built and running, not when a newsletter goes out whenever somebody remembers. A list nobody emails is not an asset.
How often should I email my list?
For most local businesses, once or twice a month for broadcasts, plus automated sequences that fire on their own. Frequency matters less than relevance. People unsubscribe because the emails are not useful to them, not because they arrived too often.
What is the difference between a broadcast and an automation?
A broadcast goes to everyone at once, like a seasonal offer. An automation fires for one person based on what they did, like a welcome series or a quote follow-up. Automations do most of the earning because they reach people at the moment they care.
Can I just use AI to write my emails?
For a first draft, often yes. What AI cannot do is know who should receive it, when it should send, when it should stop because someone replied, or whether it worked. Those are the parts that decide whether an email list makes money.
Which platform should I use?
Usually whichever you already pay for. Mailchimp, Klaviyo, Zoho, and Constant Contact all do the job for a small business. We build in the one you own rather than moving you, unless your platform genuinely cannot do what you need it to do.
What if my list is old or I bought it?
We will not send to a purchased or scraped list. Mailchimp and most platforms explicitly prohibit it, and it wrecks your sending reputation for years. An old list of real customers is different, and can usually be warmed back up carefully.
Will people unsubscribe?
Some will, and that is fine. An unsubscribe is someone removing themselves from a list they were never going to buy from. What matters is the trend in replies and revenue, not list size. We would rather have 400 people who read than 4,000 who do not.
Do I need to write the emails myself?
No, we write them and it is included in every package. You will need to tell us what you actually sell and the questions customers ask most, which takes about an hour on the first call. Everything after that is ours until you approve it.
How do I know if it is working?
By revenue attributed to email, plus replies and bookings, not by open rates. Apple Mail Privacy Protection has made open rates unreliable since 2021, so anyone still reporting them as the headline number is measuring something that stopped meaning much years ago.
What does email marketing cost?
A funnel build including one sequence is $2,800 for a fixed scope. Ongoing help is $350 a month for four hours, or a 15-hour retainer at $1,200 if you want campaigns written every month as well. Single sequences and one-off campaigns are $85 an hour.

Put the list to work.

Send us the details and we'll tell you which single sequence would earn most for your business, and roughly what it is worth.
